BlastBall Rules

BLAST BALL LEAGUE RULES

  1. Each session will consist of a 25-minute practice and warm-up session with the game starting at the 30-minute point sharp.  Utilize the 25 mins practice session to teach some fundamentals on throwing, running, hitting, fielding, and catching. Incorporate as many games as you can to keep the activities active and participative. Attempt to have drills that include everyone at once rather than one at a time where kids wait in line to keep everyone moving.

  1. RAIN OUTS: Coaches are responsible for letting an opposing team coach know if they will not be showing up because of the weather.  Games will not be rescheduled.

  1. The teams take turns being responsible for setting up the diamond properly, and ensuring it is securely put away in the equipment box.

  1. Defensive players can use baseball gloves but do not need to wear baseball gloves due to the softness and size of the ball used.

  1. Only Blast Ball! equipment provided by BRLL is to be used – no other equipment is permitted.  Personal bats are not allowed to be used in Blast Ball!

  1. Players should be given the opportunity to play in all defensive positions.

  1. Offensive squad: There should be a batting coach, a first-base coach (directing the batter running to first and the "jump") and an "on-deck" coach (prepping the next batter).

  1. Defensive squad: There should be a coach (who also acts as the umpire and calls "play ball" and at least two field coaches.

FIELD SETUP

  • Place the Tee at home plate on the diamond. To the right along the first baseline, place the Blast Base 30 feet from the Tee. To the left along the third baseline, place the cone 30 feet from the Tee. This establishes your fair/foul line to the right and left on the field.

  • If available, you can set up cones/markers where defensive positions should be placed. This gives the players a mark to focus on where to stand.

  • Now pace off 15 feet directly in front of the Tee and lay out your Line Marker running between the first and third baselines. This becomes the fair/foul line for play. If a ball is hit inside of that line, it is foul and should be re-teed for another try. If it goes beyond the line, either in the air or on a roll it is considered in play.

GAME RULES

  1. No New inning shall commence 30 minutes after the game has begun.

  1. Teams should share players to make teams equal.

  1. No team shall forfeit its last turn at bat in order to end a game.

  1. Each team bats through their order and then switches to the field while the other team bats.

  1. All the defensive players on a team take an infield or outfield position. The defensive coach may position the players on the field and remain on the field to instruct the players and ensure they rotate positions each inning.  Fielding positions are usually: Pitcher, 1st base, and fielders/rovers.

  1. The defensive players must remain beyond the line marker, and inside the left and right baseline prior to the ball being in play. Once the ball is hit fairly the defensive players may move anywhere on the field

  1. The offensive team coach will manage ball placement on the Tee at home plate and make fair/foul/out calls.

  1. The ball is hit after the umpire yells "play ball" and the batter runs to the base. The object is to make the base "HONK" before a defensive player gets the ball and yells "BLAST.

  1. The offensive team coach will place the Blast Ball on the Tee and the batter will hit the ball. If the ball is hit fair, the batter will run to the Blast Base. 8. If the batter reaches the Blast Base before a defensive player either [a] catches the Blast Ball in the air (automatic out), or [b] fields the Blast Ball and “BLAST” is yelled by the defensive player (also an out), the batter scores a run. Once a run is scored or the batter is called out, they return to the bench

ADD CHALLENGES TO THE GAME

Over time the players will get used to the game and become bored.  The coaches may modify the rules to provide more challenge to the players, provided they are both in agreement prior to the start of a game.  The following modifications are allowed if agreed upon:

  1. Add one throw and subsequent catch to a designated team-mate by the defensive player who fields the ball.   This throw can be to a specific player or any player in the field.

  1. Have the ball thrown home to the catcher when fielded and the “catcher” place the ball on the Tee.

  1. Lengthen the distance to the base.

  1. Widen the vector for the hitters (i.e. place the "3rd baseline cone" further away from first).
