BOW RIDGE LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL – 2015 UPDATE

It’s hard to believe that with snow still on the ground we’re already thinking about baseball; but the 2015 Bow Ridge Little League season registration opened January 15th 2015.  Before you register, here are a few important updates from Little League Canada, Little League Alberta and Bow Ridge that will be coming up this season:

Age Determination Change:

In April 2014, the International Congress approved the new league age determination amendment for Little League Baseball®.  As a result, effective immediately, any player born on or after January 1, 2006 who will turn the ages of 5-9 during the 2015 calendar year will be eligible to participate in a local Little League program and will use the new age determination date of December 31 for the remainder of their Little League Baseball career. Consequently, players born prior to January 1, 2006 will continue to utilize the current age determination date of April 30 for the next three Little League Baseball seasons. This change ensures that no player will lose a year of participation in the Little League Majors Division that culminates with the annual Little League Baseball World Series in South Williamsport, Pa.  You can find a chart identifying your child’s birthday month and year on our website to determine their Little League age.

Division Updates:

Keeping in line with changes and improvements across Canada and Alberta, Bow Ridge continues to try and implement new strategies to increase player development and allow more boys and girls the opportunity to play baseball based upon skill level, desired level of competition, and scheduling.  As such, the following changes will be implemented this season:
New – Intermediate Division (50 foot pitching distance and 70 foot base paths)
  • Provides an opportunity for players to transition incrementally from a 46/60 field to a full size 60/90 baseball field.
  • Teams will play in city wide interlock league with other teams in District 3 and District 8
  • Tryouts will be held to sort players into tiers based upon ability
  • Will be for players age 12 & 13 years old
  • 12 year olds not interested in trying out for Intermediate can declare themselves only for either Majors or Nationals.

Junior Division
  • This division will be made up of 13 and 14 year old players (13 year olds not interested in playing intermediate may register to play in Juniors)
  • Teams will play in city wide interlock league with other teams in District 3
  • Tryouts will be held to sort players into tiers based upon ability

Majors Division
  • This division will be made up of 11 and 12 year old players
  • Tryouts are held for this division, and players are drafted onto one of three majors teams
  • *New – All 11 and 12 year old players must attend evaluations.  Returning Majors players will automatically be placed on a Majors team, but all will be re-drafted and placed on one of the three teams in accordance with Little League rules.
  • All other 11 and 12 year old players who did not previously play in the Majors division will be evaluated and are subject to be drafted onto one of the three Majors division teams in accordance with Little League rules.
  •  11 year olds not selected to a Majors team will be placed on a Minors Division team in according to their evaluation score; 12 year olds will be placed on a Nationals Division team according to their evaluation score

Other Divisions
  • All other divisions will proceed under the same structure as the previous season.  Information about all divisions can be found on the Bow Ridge Website.

*** All division placements are subject to the number of players registered in each division and the ability to field a complete team.  However, Bow Ridge Little League will ensure that every player has the opportunity to play on a team in the 2015 season.

Friend Requests:
  • As all ways team equality is BRLL’s priority therefore friend requests have been eliminated this year.

Coach Applications:

Any person interested in coaching any of the competitive tiered divisions within Bow Ridge Little League (Majors, Intermediate, Junior, or All Stars – All Divisions) must have completed at minimum the NCCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification to be considered.
